The Topics & Projects section of this site is where you will see the progress that UBtheNEWS is making with cataloguing the various scientific and historical statements that are open to corroboration. Topics are presented in the following format:
Some Topics will also have a Project associated with them. Many scientific and historic statements are not accepted as true by a super majority of the scientific and scholarly community but, for one reason or another, are ripe for developing acceptance. When someone agrees to be the contact person for coordinating the development of that issue, that Topic will have a Project section to provide contact information and report on the developmental status of the Topic, and to let people know what they can do to help if they are inspired to do so. Naturally, as the caretaker of this site, I can generally be considered a contact person for any of the Topics and people should feel free to do so if no one else is listed. However, the success of this effort is largely a measure of how effective I am in inspiring a coordinated effort among Urantia Book readers. The scope of this endeavor is much broader than what one person can hope to accomplish and will take more than a lifetime. See the Get Involved section for further information about participation. The Urantia Book recounts history and talks about physical reality within its own context of theological and cosmological assertions. Because this site is not about these aspects of The Urantia Book (except to the degree that cosmology embraces astronomy), these aspects of the book will be minimized. However, It is not possible to completely separate the issues because, for instance, some of the theology and cosmology relate directly to issues of physical evolution. It is important to remember that this site is written based on the common definitions that words have. The Urantia Book defines theological and cosmological words on its own terms and introduces many new words in order to express new ideas and things that we otherwise do not have name for. Occasionally, some of the theology and cosmology of The Urantia Book and some of these new words may need to be introduced and explained. When this is needed, it will be done to provide what is minimally necessary for an appreciation of the scientific and scholarly issues that are being considered. There will be no attempt to use words or define terms in a way that is consistent with how The Urantia Book uses terminology (unless it relates directly to the scientific and scholarly issues at hand). People more familiar with The Urantia Book are asked to appreciate that in order to be of service to those who are not familiar with the book, theological and cosmological material may be presented in a “distorted” or “inconsistent” manner with respect to how The Urantia Book uses terminology. Regarding communication, the primary purpose of this site is to make it easy on those who are unfamiliar with The Urantia Book to understand the information that is made available at this site. People who are unfamiliar with The Urantia Book’s theology and cosmology need to appreciate this also. An effort is being made to remain true to the focus of what can be corroborated through science and scholarship and not get bogged down in explaining new theological and cosmological ideas. Go directly to The Urantia Book for a better understanding of these issues if you become interested in them. Please forgive the “distortions” and “inconsistencies” that come with summarizing the theological and cosmological material for the purpose of introducing the scientific and historical information. |
